Abstract

Introduction: The family is the main element and the fundamental pillar of society in Islam and the cultural-historical ecosystem of Iran, despite the existence of this family in Iran, it is affected by many changes that transform the family structure and its processes in terms of quantity and quality. Exploring these changes is an important subject in this time. The aim of the current research is to investigate the understanding of women and men about family changes

Method: The method of the present study was conducted as a qualitative approach in Tabas city in 2023. The data was collected by semi-structured interview method with 26 people and analyzed by thematic analysis method.

.Findings: The findings show that the participants have a very fundamental and open-minded understanding of the concept of family, so that the concept of family has undergone a serious and change and rethinking. This reflexive understanding has main difference of what is been in the history of Iran. Specifically women participants had fundamental different attitudes. The five main themes of the research are: acute undervaluation, gender role inversion, breakdown of expectations and communication, crude manual parenting, and sexual framing. In the exploratory map of the research, the core theme is "indeterminate transition" which means a condition of turbulence and rupture in the family structure conceptually and in social construction. It means that participants have reflexive understanding about family and its functions.

Results: Research shows that compared to cultural and historical values and norms, the family is in a very dangerous transition situation. Understanding this issue by social and cultural policy makers seems to be an important requirement.
