Abstract

Introduction: The main issue in the development of a knowledge system is logic, based on which the necessary relationships between the categories of a specific knowledge system are explained. In the book "System of Logic", John Stewart proposed an idea of the development of moral and social sciences, which brought special methodological tools. Inspired by Newtonian physics and political economy, he sought to explain the development path of moral sciences. Therefore, his main question was the possibility of new moral sciences.

Method: In this article, we analyze the books and articles related to the explanatory logic system in moral sciences from the perspective of John Stuart Mill using analytical-descriptive method. For this purpose, the text of the book "Logic System" has been taken as the original, and in order to get a deeper analysis of the content and to find the hidden layers of the text, firstly, from other works of Mil and his intellectual system, and then the articles and books that are related to his logic system. Written along with macro principles, we have used empiricism.

Findings: The findings show that John Stuart Mill considered the general rules of the mind as the principles of moral sciences and ethology as a mediator in social explanation. The methodological tools of this problem are the explanation of the static aspect of the social phenomenon based on the dynamic aspect and the development of a special way of historical understanding.

Results: Examining the content of John Stuart Mill's works and specifically the book "System of Logic" shows that moral sciences, although they use the general rules of empiricism; But in terms of content, it has a special logic, from which a special way of history is formed.
